Commitment
Digital Accessibility
This site is designed to target Level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1. Here is what has been implemented, and what remains to be done.
Level of conformance
The conformance target is WCAG 2.1 Level AA. The measures listed below were built into the design system from the outset, not added as an afterthought.
No external audit has yet been carried out. Until an independent audit is conducted, this page describes a commitment and verifiable measures, not certified conformance.
Contrast verified, not estimated
Every text/background pairing in the design system has been calculated using the WCAG 2.1 contrast formula. Ratios are documented in the stylesheet: the brand gold is never used for text on a light background, since it only reaches 2.5:1 — a darker variant at 5.7:1 replaces it.
Fully keyboard-operable navigation
The mega-menu opens on click rather than hover alone, closes with the Escape key, and every interactive component exposes its state via aria-expanded. A visible, high-contrast focus ring accompanies every reachable element.
Skip link
A "Skip to main content" link appears on the first tab press and allows visitors to bypass the navigation.
Semantic structure
A single h1 per page, an unbroken heading hierarchy, ARIA landmarks (header, nav, main, footer), description lists for numeric indicators, and a properly marked-up breadcrumb trail.
Native accordions
Frequently asked questions rely on the browser's native details/summary elements: they work with the keyboard and screen readers without depending on JavaScript, and remain indexable.
Respectful motion
Entrance animations are automatically disabled when the system reports prefers-reduced-motion. No animation is triggered automatically on a loop over text content.
Content visible without JavaScript
Blocks animated on entrance are only hidden if the browser is executing scripts. Without JavaScript, all content remains readable.
Alternative text and decoration
Purely decorative elements — the ribbon motif, patterns, halos, icons accompanying a label — are marked aria-hidden so they don't clutter screen-reader output. The logo carries a complete text alternative.
What remains to be done
- An accessibility audit by an independent third party.
- Testing with screen-reader users (NVDA, VoiceOver).
- Systematic review of future editorial content: image alternatives, transcripts for audio and video content, and captioning.
- Extending this approach to the account-based spaces planned for Phase 2, where complex forms and dashboards will require particular attention.
